Edgefield Children's Services
Morrison's Edgefield program helps children ages 6 through 12 years with emotional, behavioral, and academic problems who are unable to function in neigbhorhood schools. Many of these children have a long history of foster care; some have never had what most people would recognize as a family.
Through individual and family therapy and specialized education services, these children improve their self-esteem, develop healthy relationships, and build positive behavioral and social skills. Families are an important part of a child's growth and development, and are encouraged to participate in the treatment program.
History
Edgefield was established by Multnomah County in 1964 as a residential facility for emotionally disturbed children, and eventually added a day treatment program. In 1972 Edgefield reorganized as a private, non-profit corporation. After more than a decade of collaboration, Edgefield merged with Morrison in January 2001.
