J.F.R. Foundation Awards Morrison Child And Family Services $20,000
PORTLAND, OR – November 21, 2011 – The J.F.R. Foundation awarded $20,000 to Morrison Child and Family Service’s Hand in Hand Day Treatment Program, which provides mental health services to severely abused and neglected children aged 3-9 years. The funding will be used for urgent needs such as facility improvements and repairs, for long-term projects such as the Hand in Hand Therapeutic Garden, and for the day-to-day operating expenses of this vital program.

Many maltreated children develop emotional and behavioral problems; the effects of these traumatic experiences are varied and unique to each child. An individually tailored service plan is implemented for each family at Hand in Hand after a thorough evaluation is conducted to assess the type and severity of maltreatment, age of onset, pattern of maltreatment, environmental risks, child’s temperament, and the strength of other interpersonal relationships. Day Treatment services are provided year-round, 4 hours per day for each child, serving up to 44 at-risk children at a time. The Day Treatment milieu is a combination of interdisciplinary, therapeutic activities integrated with the Portland Public School DARTS Program, community-based skill development, and, when necessary, Therapeutic Foster Care.

The J.F.R. Foundation, established in 1993, provides grants to non-profit organizations in Oregon with an emphasis on the Portland metropolitan area, supporting programs for low income and under-served children in the fields of education, health, and human services. J.F.R. has helped fund Morrison's Hand in Hand program in the past, as well as home- and community-based services and Early Childhood programming. We greatly appreciate the Foundation's dedication to the safety and welfare of our young clients and their families.
